Border Chief Defends Chicago Tactics Amid Outrage

Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Commander Gregory Bovino has defended “Operation Midway Blitz,” claiming that strong enforcement has protected agents. The campaign has faced criticism from Democratic Illinois officials and residents expressing fear over alleged excessive force. The initiative has resulted in approximately 3,000 arrests and is now under court-ordered oversight.

Bovino said, “We’re what I call now sanctuary busters. There are no sanctuaries. There will be no sanctuaries.”

Bovino argued that tear gas, rubber bullets, and helicopter raids are needed to protect agents during high-risk encounters. He currently oversees field operations in Chicago while managing his command post in El Centro, California. Bovino stated, “We use the least amount of force necessary to effect the arrest, we do that.” He added, “If I had more CS gas, I would have deployed it.”…
