Serial mail thief, arrested twice in 2 months, is sentenced to prison

A Chicago man who twice landed in police custody this year with contraband like counterfeit postal keys, stolen mail, credit cards, and methamphetamine has been sentenced to three concurrent four-year prison terms after pleading guilty to burglary charges.

Andrew Trotter, 45, entered the pleas before Judge Aleksandra Gillespie, in cases that began with a Logan Square arrest in July, a lengthy period during which he disappeared from court, and a September arrest that featured a nearly identical set of allegations.

The September case also featured one new detail. By the time investigators tracked him down again, Trotter had added a tattoo of the word “Trust” across his forehead…
