Man who pointed pistol at cops days after getting probation in another gun case gets 2½ years

A man who threatened Chicago police officers with a gun just six days after getting probation in another gun case, prompting the officers to shoot at him, received a sentence of just 2½ years on Tuesday, according to court records. But he is expected to serve little to no time in an actual prison.

On September 10, 2024, Rakim Kendall, 32, was given first-time weapon offender probation by Judge Tiana Blakely after he pleaded guilty to having a gun in a car in suburban Lansing. Six days later, Chicago police officers tried to stop him because he matched the description of a masked man who had been seen with a gun outside businesses in the 7100 block of South Jeffery, according to a CPD report.

Kendall ran from officers and was immediately struck by a passing SUV, knocking him to the pavement, according to police and video later released by the city. He got up, pointed a gun toward officers, and continued running with the weapon still in his hand, the report said…
