Mayor appears to backtrack on Christkindl crowd cap

CHICAGO — After facing fury from Christkindlmarket vendors who were slapped with sudden capacity restrictions, Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson’s administration appears to be backtracking.

Vendors at Chicago’s popular downtown Christmas market said setting crowd limits to Covid-like levels would force them to lose money and skip the event next year.

“There were some concerns that city departments and sister agencies had about making sure that ingress and egress – that that process was smooth to keep people safe,” Johnson told reporters Wednesday. “I intervened and made the adjustment, and now we’re encouraging people to continue to participate at this incredible market.”…
