Former Summit police chief found guilty of illegally taking cash in exchange for liquor license transfer

CHICAGO — A federal jury has found the former Summit police chief guilty of illegally taking money in exchange for helping with the transfer of a liquor license.

Following a seven-day trial in Chicago, a jury found 57-year-old John Kosmowski guilty of bribery conspiracy, bribery, and obstruction of justice.

Prosecutors said Kosmowski conspired with Summit building inspector William Mundy, 57, to accept more than $10,000 from a businessman in 2017.
