CHICAGO (WGN) — Seven juveniles, all 13 years old or younger, have been charged in connection with an attack on a mother and her young son near an elementary school on Chicago’s Far South Side in November.
Video of the incident went viral, showing a 33-year-old woman and her son being assaulted just down the street from Orville T. Bright Elementary School in the South Deering neighborhood on Nov. 17.

In the footage, the woman and her son are seen walking as a group of young students follows and yells at them. The children then surround the pair, and two of them begin punching the victims. The mother and her son are eventually thrown to the ground.
The incident sparked national outrage and prompted calls for accountability from parents and community members.

Prosecutors have since filed battery charges against seven children, including:
- Three 10-year-old boys
- A 10-year-old girl
- An 11-year-old girl
- A 12-year-old boy
- A 13-year-old girl
