New owner enrages neighbors with museum plans for Michael Jordan’s $9.5 million Highland Park mansion

In late 2024, after more than a decade on the market, Michael Jordan’s iconic Chicago-area mansion finally sold for $9.5 million, marking the end of a sales journey that began in 2012 with a $29 million asking price.

The mansion has always been a popular tourist attraction for anyone visiting the area, with everyone posing for a picture in front of the symbolic front gate of Jordan’s house. The home features a wide range of luxury amenities, including a full-sized basketball court, a gym, a cigar room, a home theater, a tennis court, and an infinity pool. Additionally, the mansion boasts nine bedrooms and 19 bathrooms. ​

The new owner, John Cooper, a big fan of Jordan himself, has lived in the Chicago area for more than 10 years. He recalled seeing news of the basketball superstar listing the house in Highland Park and thinking how great it would be for the person who buys the home…
