Armed robbery spree hits multiple South Side neighborhoods

CHICAGO (WGN) – Chicago police are warning the public about a recent string of armed robberies in the Washington Park, Woodlawn and West Woodlawn neighborhoods.

Police said the incidents happened at the following times and locations:

  • 5200 block of S. Michigan Ave. on December 31, 2025, at 3:30 a.m. (Washington Park)
  • 5700 block of S. Michigan Ave. on December 31, 2025, at 3:15 a.m.(Washington Park)
  • 6000 Block of S. Rhodes Ave. on January 1, 2026, at 1:05 a.m. (West Woodlawn)
  • 700 Block of E. 61st St. on January 4, 2026, at 12:25 p.m. (West Woodlawn)
  • 0-100 block of W. 59th St. on January 4, 2026, at 4:30 a.m. (Washington Park)
  • 6100 block of S. Langley Ave. on January 4, 2026, at 4:55 a.m. (West Woodlawn)
  • 6200 block of S. Cottage Grove Ave. on January 4, 2026, at 11: 40 p.m. (West Woodlawn)
  • 6100 block of S. Blackstone Ave. on January 6, 2026, at 4:57 p.m. (Woodlawn)

During each incident, two to four suspects armed with handguns got out of a white sedan or white SUV, approached the victim and demanded property. The victims complied and the suspects drove off inside the aforementioned white sedan or white SUV, according to investigators.

Police said during one of the incidents, the suspects forced the victim into their vehicle and demanded access to his bank account.

Detectives described the suspects as teens/young men who are six feet tall and between the ages of 17 and 24. They were wearing black hooded sweatshirts and ski masks…
