CHICAGO (WGN) — The Archdiocese of Chicago announced it will close six schools at the end of the school year.
The Superintendent of Schools acknowledged the deep ties the schools have to their communities, but said low enrollment and ongoing financial deficits made the closures unavoidable.
The following schools will close at the end of the school year:
- Our Lady of Humility in Beach Park
- Sts. Bruno and Richard in Chicago
- St. Hubert in Hoffman Estates
- St. Jerome in Chicago
- St. Francis Borgia in Chicago
- St. Stanislaus Kostka in Chicago
“We made these decisions with heavy hearts after months of discussions with each school,” Superintendent Greg Richmond said in a statement. “Many people have worked hard at each school to raise money and try to boost enrollment. We recognize and value those efforts but, in the end, the schools were not able to close the gaps and they are no longer sustainable.”…
