MORTON GROVE, Ill. — Morton Grove Police Chief Michael Weitzel issued a statement on social media Sunday morning regarding an overnight incident in the north suburb in which police say a homeowner was shot while trying to stop his car from being broken into.
According to police, officers arriving to a report of shots fired in the 7300 block of Palma Lane around 2:45 a.m. Sunday provided lifesaving measures to a victim who had been shot.

An initial investigation, police say, determined that two Black male offenders were trying to break into a car parked on Palma Lane. They were spotted by the homeowner, who then confronted them and tried to stop the burglary.
