VIDEO: Crossing guard carries child across flooded Chicago street

CHICAGO (WGN) — A water main break in Chicago on Thursday morning left some commuters wading through frigid waters, but one kid who had to make the trek was kept dry thanks to a particularly helpful crossing guard.

The water main break occurred in the city’s North Side early Thursday morning, and it led to some flooding at the intersection.

WGN’s news helicopter was over the scene at around 8 a.m. when cars could be seen working to navigate through the standing water, while a police car blocked off the road to traffic.

Alongside the vehicles, a handful of kids had to cross the flooded road. As one of them prepared to step into the ice-cold water, a crossing guard hoisted them over their shoulder and carried them to the other side, safe and dry.

The crossing guard, Joe Sass, said he was more than happy to help out the kids…
