Nearly fatal CTA attack case ends with no prison time for assailant

A man accused of nearly beating another passenger to death aboard a CTA Pink Line train will not spend any time in prison after receiving a two-year sentence on Monday, court records show.

Jesus Ramirez, 45, received credit for more than a year he spent on electronic monitoring while his case was pending, and his sentence was further reduced under Illinois law, which cuts prison terms in half for most charges.
