Amazon might be turning to the Chicago market again to build out its namesake superstore operations based on a report the company plans a second Chicagoland brick-and-mortar location, this time in Oak Brook, IL.
The Chicago Tribune eported Amazon has sought a permit to develop a 225,000-square-foot store in suburban Oak Brook, west of the Windy City. The company already has targeted Orland Park, located south of Chicago, for a physical superstore. Amazon has pursued development of brick-and-mortar locations to operate under its own nameplate while beginning the process of shuttering the company’s Fresh and Go stores. At the same time, the company stated it would invest more heavily in expansion of its Whole Foods grocery operation and consumables delivery.
The Chicago Tribune noted demolition at the proposed Amazon site would precede building, slated for 2027. The project, if approved, would include the developer making improvements to associated traffic infrastructure, according to the published report…
