Skokie man on parole charged after firearm recovered in attempted vehicle burglary investigation

Evanston police said Friday that a Skokie man was arrested Feb. 24 after officers responding to a report of someone trying to open parked car doors on the 700 block of Hinman Avenue found him carrying a loaded handgun.

A resident called police after seeing Jonathan Curtis, 21, of the 8200 block of N. Kilpatrick Ave. in Skokie, walking south in a nearby alley, pulling on parked vehicle door handles and looking around as he moved between buildings and vehicles, police said.

Police said an officer located Curtis, who matched the caller’s description, and conducted a stop. During a patdown, Curtis did not follow instructions about where to place his hands. Additional officers arrived and observed a handgun sticking out of his waistband. Officers handcuffed Curtis and recovered a loaded .45-caliber Glock, police said…
