NORTH CENTER — A restaurant offering Roman-style pizza as well as croissants, doughnuts and coffee is now open in the former Hero’s sandwich shop across from Lane Tech.
Retro Pizza, 3600 N. Western Ave., held a soft opening last week to offer its unique take on pizza at a locale where bus commuters, cyclists, joggers and students converge.
“When you bite into it, you feel the crunchiness on the bottom. And inside it’s airy, like a pillow,” owner Vincent Colombet said. “And … [unlike] when after you eat some other pizzas, you don’t feel like you need to take a nap.”…
