Chicago City Council votes to freeze minimum wage for tipped workers

Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson championed passage of a “One Fair Wage” ordinance that eliminated a separate minimum wage for tipped workers, but the City Council froze that change Wednesday.

The measure to freeze the city’s minimum wage for tipped workers at roughly three-quarters that of other workers passed City Council by a 30-18 vote, but it faces an uncertain future as Johnson has indicated he will veto the legislation.

If he does, it would be the third veto of his term as mayor, and it would require 34 votes to overcome it…
