‘He deserves the maximum’: Family of slain Danville toddler reacts to murder’s sentencing

DANVILLE, Ill. (WCIA) — A Chicago man’s fate has been decided after he was convicted of murdering a two-year-old girl in Danville, and it’s exactly what the girl’s family wanted.

32-year-old Dantrail Johnson received a 60-year prison sentence on Monday for murdering two-year-old Cali Sago in August of 2022. The Vermilion County State’s Attorney’s Office said that while Cali’s mother was at work, Johnson was watching her and several other kids when he started beating her, all because she was sucking her thumb.

“She was playing with her siblings and being a baby and doing the things that toddlers do,” said Cali’s grandmother, Danielle Madlock. “It was no reason for anything like this to ever have taken her joy or her soul in the way.”…
