EDGEWATER — An Edgewater historic district could be granted landmark status by the city.
The city’s Commission on Chicago Landmarks is considering granting preliminary landmark status to the Bryn Mawr Historic District, which includes Bryn Mawr Avenue from Broadway to Sheridan Road. It also includes the Edgewater Beach Apartments, 5555 N. Sheridan Road, which is already listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The Belle Shore Apartment Hotel, 5550 N. Kenmore Ave., and the Manor House are also part of the district.
The matter will be taken up before the commission — an arm of the Department of Planning and Development — during a hearing April 2, according to Ald. Leni Manaa-Hoppenworth (48th), whose ward includes the area. Her ward office is also located in the Bryn Mawr Historic District…
