Sarkis Cafe at 2632 Gross Point Road wasn’t able to enjoy the warm weather Wednesday, as the northwest Evanston institution is temporarily closed due to issues with state regulators.
Chairs and traffic cones were seen in front of the restaurant’s entrance Wednesday afternoon during normal business hours, and two notice stickers from the Illinois Department of Revenue were seen on windows facing the parking lot. These stickers stated that Sarkis’ “certificate of registration has expired,” and warn against illegally selling anything without a valid registration.
A department spokesperson did not respond to a request for details on what specifically caused the notice Wednesday afternoon. The Illinois Secretary of State’s Office separately lists Sarkis as “not in good standing,” likely due to its annual report not yet being filed…
