Dawn Blaze Rocks Burbank Block, Firefighters Pull Residents To Safety

It was a jarring start to the weekend in south suburban Burbank on Saturday, when an early-morning apartment fire forced multiple families from their homes but, remarkably, left everyone unhurt. The blaze was reported around 6:45 a.m. in the 7800 block of South Rutherford Avenue and drew a multi-unit response from local emergency crews. Firefighters and police pulled residents from second- and third-floor units before clearing the scene.

Heavy smoke pours from the third-floor unit

When Truck 206 arrived, crews found heavy smoke billowing from a third-floor apartment. Two firefighters rescued a resident from that unit, while Burbank police officers helped another person out of a second-floor apartment. Six families were displaced, but officials reported no injuries after crews brought the situation under control. The cause of the fire remained under investigation Saturday afternoon, according to NBC Chicago.
