Some in Chicago’s northwest suburbs brace for flooding as river levels threaten

CARY, Ill. (WGN) — Flood warnings along the Fox River and Des Plaines River on Thursday have many residents in the area on edge as water threatens their homes.

In some areas, it’s already hard to tell where local properties end and where the river begins. The water is already so high that the thought of the river rising another one to two feet is stressing out homeowners.

Don Samuelson, who lives near Fox River Drive in Cary, says he moved some of his belongings to higher ground because the water is already inching closer to his property.

“I’ve been getting everything up off the floors of my garage. I had a garage fridge, a washer and dryer, so I put that on a trailer and put it at one of the neighbor’s houses,” Samuelson said, adding that crews showed up with sandbags to help him build a perimeter…
