Severe weather threat returns to Chicago area; damaging winds, heavy downpours, hail possible

The threat of strong to severe storms returns to the Chicago area Tuesday, the NBC 5 Storm Team said, with the chance for winds gusting as high as 60 mph at times and heavy downpours as summer-like temperatures return to the forecast.

“Get ready for some rain,” NBC 5 Storm Team Meteorologist Pete Sack said Tuesday morning.

Early Tuesday morning, the storm system was still hovering over the north and west, NBC 5 Live Doppler Radar showed.
