A 19-year-old Cincinnati man is accused of turning a traffic stop into a crash scene, and now he is sitting on a $250,000 secured bond. Prosecutors say Kevin Givens deliberately hit a marked police cruiser while fleeing an attempted stop, then tossed a handgun from his car that smashed into an unrelated vehicle and broke a window. Court records show Givens is due back in Hamilton County Municipal Court on June 4.
What prosecutors say
According to a Hamilton County court complaint, Givens allegedly struck the cruiser at a high rate of speed, then threw a tan Glock 9mm out of the car while trying to get away. The handgun reportedly hit another vehicle that had not been involved in the stop, damaging a window in the process. Those details were reported by WLWT.
How this fits with recent incidents
Hoodline covered a similar case last October when a suspect allegedly rammed a police cruiser, prompting a SWAT response and a school lockdown. That earlier episode underscored how quickly routine stops can escalate into dangerous situations for officers and bystanders alike.
