Cincinnati VA Medical Center launches new federal electronic health records system

CINCINNATI (WKRC) – Nearly 50,000 veterans who receive care through the Cincinnati VA Medical Center are now part of a major shift in how their medical information is managed as the facility transitions to a new federal electronic health record system designed to follow service members through their entire lives.

The Cincinnati VA Medical Center began using the federal electronic health record on June 6. Officials said the organization spent significant time preparing for the change, which is intended to be seamless for the veterans it serves.

“So, with the federal electronic health record, every VA that goes to this system will have the exact same system,” said Zachary Sage, executive director of the Cincinnati VA Medical Center.

The system is also used by the Department of War, with the goal that a person’s health record can follow them for their entire life. Leaders said it is expected to improve the transition from active military service to veteran status by bringing more information into one place…
