CINCINNATI (WXIX) – A very busy overnight left behind flooded roads, numerous tornado warnings and pockets of wind damage across the Tri-State. The National Weather Service plans damage surveys Thursday in the Aurora area of Dearborn County, Florence in Boone County, Cedar Grove in Franklin County and portions of Mason County near Maysville. Rainfall totals of 3 to 4 inches were common in some communities, while radar estimates topped 5 to 6 inches in a few locations where storms repeatedly tracked over the same areas.
The heavy rain was enough to rewrite the record books at Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport. CVG picked up enough rain Thursday to set a new daily rainfall record for June 18, breaking the previous mark that had stood since 1939. Numerous Flash Flood Warnings were issued overnight as creeks, streams and poor-drainage areas quickly filled with water.
The good news is the weather pattern finally begins to settle down. While an isolated shower or thunderstorm cannot be ruled out this evening, most of the day will be dry.
