Patient Names Clermont Mercy Hospital in Complaint Video

A video recorded by Makayla Mason, a patient at Clermont Mercy Hospital, captures an alarming encounter that raises serious questions about the conduct of hospital staff and the treatment of patients seeking care.

Mayson says she sought treatment after having her wisdom teeth removed due to excessive swelling and trouble breathing. Mayson describes her first nurse positively but says her care changed the following day. After initially receiving intravenous pain medication and antibiotics, she says a nurse offered her a pill despite her difficulty opening her mouth and her fear of choking. According to Mayson, the nurse told her it was “this or nothing.” Mayson states that she overheard two nurses mocking her difficulty speaking and that her complaints were dismissed. When she requested a different nurse, she says she was assigned one of the nurses involved.

The dispute later centered on Mayson’s efforts to obtain staff members’ names for a formal complaint. She says a supervising nurse provided some names but would not provide others. During the recorded exchange, the supervising nurse says she does not know one coworker’s name and tells Mayson she cannot approach that nurse to ask for it herself. When Mayson asks to speak with the doctor, she is again told no. Mayson then went into the hallway and stood just outside her room, to wait for the nurse whose name she sought to pass. In the video you can clearly see that McKayla remained calm and quiet while standing in the hallway.
