A Cincinnati Recreation Department employee was fired in December after an incident involving a child, but city officials are refusing to say exactly what happened.
The city has only said an incident occurred on Dec. 20 at the Cincinnati Recreation Commission holiday minicamp at the Sayler Park Recreation Center which involved a child and an adult staff member. The Enquirer received an anonymous tip about the firing.
Immediate action was taken to ensure the child’s safety, and authorities were notified, Cincinnati Recreation Commission Director Daniel Betts said in a statement Wednesday.
Betts said in the statement his “top priority” is the “well-being of all individuals who utilize our facilities and programs.”
The staff member, who is not named, was suspended and subsequently fired after an investigation.
“I will continue to hold our staff to the highest standards and ensure (Cincinnati Recreation Commission) staff provide the best care possible,” Betts’ statement said.
The Cincinnati Recreation Commission runs 23 recreation centers. The Enquirer is seeking more information about what happened.
