Report: Bengals Interested in Buccaneers Assistant For Quarterbacks Coaching Vacancy

CINCINNATI — The Bengals promoted quarterbacks coach Dan Pitcher to offensive coordinator last week after Brian Callahan went to Tennessee. Who will replace Pitcher as quarterbacks coach?

Buccaneers tight ends coach John Van Dam is “in contention” for the job according to Greg Auman of Fox Sports.

The 39-year-old has been a quarterbacks coach or assistant quarterbacks coach at three schools: Florida, Southern Illinois and Lafayette. He’s been on the Buccaneers’ coaching staff since 2019 and was named tight ends coach prior to the 2022 season.

Bengals assistant quarterbacks coach Brad Kragthorpe is still the favorite for the job, but it’s interesting to hear at least one name mentioned as a potential candidate.

“We have an open quarterbacks (coaching) job,” Zac Taylor said during Pitcher’s introduction. “That process has begun and will be ongoing into next week as we evaluate all the proper candidates and see what the best fit for us is. That’s a process where we’ll sit down as a staff and continue to go, but certainly his voice will be the loudest on the headset as he and I work together and as we piece through what the whole thing will work for.”
