Cincinnati Children’s is a health system known for patient care and academic research. It provides healthcare, educates healthcare providers, and conducts scientific research. This research has led to many medical advancements. On International Day of Women and Girls in Science, celebrated on February 11, Cincinnati Children’s is acknowledging the work of its female scientists.

Dr. Chidiogo Anyigbo, a Primary Care Pediatric Physician, is one of these scientists. Besides patient care, Dr. Anyigbo researches infant mental health. Her work aims to overcome obstacles that hinder caregivers from providing safe and nurturing relationships for child development. She works towards solutions that benefit families and the community, aiming to lessen negative childhood experiences and improve decision-making between families and healthcare providers.

Another scientist at Cincinnati Children’s is Dr. Samantha Brugmann, a Developmental Biologist. Dr. Brugmann’s research is on craniofacial disease, conditions that affect the development of skull and face bones. These conditions make up one-third of all birth defects. Her research goal is to create skeletal tissue for surgical repairs to assist children with craniofacial conditions. Her lab has discovered something that could lead to new treatments for rare conditions like orofacial-digital-syndrome (OFD).
