Cincinnati millionaire Hugh Hoffman left historic $58M gift to ALS Association

Late Cincinnati millionaire Hugh Hoffman left a record breaking donation to the ALS Association.

The association, which seeks to find a cure for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, or ALS, received a $58 million gift from Hoffman, whose father died from the disease. The donation is believed to be the largest single philanthropic gift made to any ALS organization, the association said.

“Our Uncle Hugh was an incredibly generous, kind man of great integrity who wanted to give back,” Steve Bullock, Hoffman’s nephew, said in a press statement . “He lived a modest life, which enabled him to make truly transformative donations after his death. His generosity speaks volumes about the sort of person he was.”

The millionaire’s donation will be used to advance new ALS treatments, improve clinics and increase patient access, the association said.
