Wood County traffic stop rescues kidnapped woman

CYGNET, Ohio — Langston Campbell, 27, of Cincinnati was charged with two counts of kidnapping after being pulled over at about 12:20 p.m. Wednesday for a traffic violation, according to a report released by the Wood County Sheriff’s Office today.

Mr. Campbell was the driver of the vehicle, which also had a female passenger sitting in the back seat. After officers separated the two, deputies learned that the unnamed 29-year-old female had been reported missing on Jan. 10 by her mother from San Bernardino, Calif. Both she and her 2-year-old son were reportedly being held against their will in Detroit, as well as in Port Huron, Mich.

Mr. Campbell was arrested and booked into Wood County Jail. Detectives reported that they transported the female to Port Huron and, with the assistance of the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office, successfully secured the child from the care of Mr. Campbell’s mother and reunited him with his own mother.

The investigation is ongoing.
