As the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra and its president and CEO, Jonathan Martin, consider the plans for the Coney Island property, I would like to offer an option that you may not have considered. This could be a “both-and” situation that allows for the development of the new music venue and festival grounds while keeping a small portion of the park as an additional revenue-generating venue.
I am writing as a representative of the Save Coney Islanders. What do we mean by save Coney Island? We mean Sunlite Pool.
We support and appreciate Cincinnati Preservation Association’s efforts to preserve Moonlite Gardens − “Moonlite Gardens is within the city of Cincinnati boundaries. There is local designation legislation available, and there are residents who have been interested in working to designate this important landmark. We hope the city of Cincinnati will acknowledge this important history and work to save this building.” And we certainly appreciate the CSO/Music and Event Management, Inc.’s pledges to acknowledge the history of the park, recognize Marian Spencer’s fight to desegregate the park in the 1950s, and continue to host Summerfair.
