Roy Rogers closes only Greater Cincinnati location after less than 2 years

Roy Rogers has closed its sole Greater Cincinnati location after less than two years in business.

The franchise’s Cleves restaurant, at 151 Cooper Ave., opened in February 2023 returning to the Cincinnati area the Western-themed fast-food chain , named after the Cincinnati-born singer and actor .

“However, despite the warm welcome and hard work from our team, sales have not met the expectations needed to sustain operations,” Becky Matheny, a Roy Rogers franchise representative, said in a news release announcing the closure.

The company said there are plans to open a Roney’s restaurant in the former Roy Rogers location.

The franchise previously announced plans for additional Roy Rogers locations in Hamilton, Butler and Clermont counties in Southwest Ohio; Boone, Kenton and Campbell counties in Northern Kentucky, and Dearborn County in Southeast Indiana.

The release did not address whether the closure of the Cleves location will impact those plans.

The chain has 37 restaurants, most of which are in Maryland, Virginia and Pennsylvania, according to its website .
