The surprising source of Cincinnati’s population growth

CINCINNATI (Cincinnati Business Courier) – International immigration is propping up growth in Greater Cincinnati, more so than many of its peer cities, according to U.S. Census data.

Of the 20,191 net new residents Greater Cincinnati gained in 2024 (referring to the Census tracking period from July 2023 to July 2024), only 4,550 comprised what the Census terms “natural change,” meaning the difference between births and deaths.

The region lost 928 residents to net domestic migration, meaning 928 more people moved to different U.S. cities than moved to Greater Cincinnati in 2024…
