After a 50-year career in broadcasting, Mike McConnell, morning host at iHeartMedia talk WLW Cincinnati (700), will retire next Friday, April 4.
“I am going to retire. Why? Because I’m old,” McConnell, who turns 70 in May, told listeners Wednesday morning. “I’ll be here through next week, and that will be it. I’m not taking any more time off. I’ll be here every day through next Friday, and we’ll pull the plug on it then.”
McConnell, who is in his second stint at the station, replaced Jim Scott in mornings 10 years ago. He was previously production director at the station and hosted “Midday” from 9am-12pm. The show was syndicated nationally from 2006-2008. McConnell left WLW in 2010 to join WGN Chicago. He returned to the station and held various shifts until taking over mornings in April 2015, WXVU.org reports…
