Special needs 2-year-old left alone on Cincinnati’s West Side

CLEVES, Ohio (WKRC) — A 35-year-old man from Cleves has been indicted on charges of child endangerment after allegedly locking a 2-year-old special needs child in a bedroom and leaving the child home alone.

Hamilton County Prosecutor Connie Pillich announced the indictment against Joshua Merz on two counts of child endangerment. The charges include a third-degree felony and a first-degree misdemeanor related to the incident on April 8.

Merz is accused of leaving the child alone for at least seven hours while he went to work. A neighbor discovered the child and alerted authorities. Upon arrival, the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office described the home as “filthy and potentially dangerous.”…
