Local man sentenced for identity theft; got married, fathered child under victim’s name

CINCINNATI (WKRC) — A local man has been sentenced to 27 months in federal prison for stealing another man’s identity, marrying, and fathering a child under the victim’s name.

Yaw Afari, who was born in Ghana in 1977, entered the United States on a visitor’s visa in 1999.

Investigators said that two years later, Afari was charged with assault, prompting him to assume the identity of an acquaintance living nearby. Under this false identity, Afari got married and fathered a child. The victim was forced to take a DNA test to prove he was not the child’s father and to avoid paying child support…
