Rumpke: Discarded battery, fireworks spark garbage fires in Tri-State

CINCINNATI (WXIX) – Firefighters responded to two separate incidents in the Greater Cincinnati area after waste was improperly thrown away, causing fires, Rumpke officials said.

The first incident occurred Tuesday after a lithium-ion battery was placed in the recycling which sparked a fire at the entrance of Rumpke’s Cincinnati Recycling Facility and prompted a response from the St. Bernard Fire Department, the company said.

Rumpke said that another fire was kindled Wednesday by a used firework in a Rumpke garbage truck in Oxford, causing the truck to empty its load in a parking lot at Oxford Community Park as firefighters extinguished the blaze…
