Restaurateur who closed local eatery last year set to re-open in College Hill

CINCINNATI (WKRC) – A Jamaican eatery is making a return to Cincinnati. Island Frydays, which closed its location last Decemeber in Corryville, will bring its Caribbean flavors to the College Hill Business District, inside the newly revitalized College Hill Plaza.

The Island Frydays food truck will serve the public from Thursday to Sunday, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., while Monday through Wednesday will be dedicated to catering services. A permanent brick-and-mortar location is planned for 2026.

“Island Frydays has been a Cincinnati treasure for years, and we couldn’t be more excited to welcome them to College Hill,” said Emmanuel Karikari, CEO of the College Hill Community Urban Redevelopment Corporation, in a media release. “This is about more than just food. It’s culture, it’s energy, it’s community.”

Founded by Chef Leo Morgan, Island Frydays became a Cincinnati staple, celebrated for its jerk chicken, oxtails, plantains, and other authentic Jamaican dishes. The restaurant has appeared on the Food Network and Guy Fieri’s “Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives.”…
