Wildlife officials on alert as infectious deer disease spreads to multiple local counties

CINCINNATI (WKRC) — Wildlife officials in Ohio are on high alert as an infectious disease affecting the deer population spreads through the region.

“Currently we’re having an outbreak of EHD—Epizootic Hemorrhagic Disease. It’s a viral disease that affects white-tailed deer. It’s spread by what is called a midge. It’s basically a small biting fly,” said Brett Beatty with the Ohio Department of Natural Resources.

The disease has been detected on the east side of Hamilton County and the west side of Clermont County, and there have been positive cases in Highland County and Clark County as well…
