From patient to physician: Dr. Bridget Merriman’s journey from stage four cancer at age 11 to helping children at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital

PENFIELD, N.Y. – Bridget Merriman, a Penfield native, was diagnosed with stage four Hodgkin’s lymphoma at the age of 11. Now 27, Merriman is using her life experience to help others as a pediatric resident physician at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital.

Merriman recalled the night she received her diagnosis, saying it was close to midnight when the doctor informed her and her parents about her condition.

“He came right over to me, and that’s when he introduced himself and he said, ‘Bridget, I’m Doctor Korones and I do want to let you know what you have and what we found was that you do have cancer, but it’s curable,’” Merriman said. “And so I just felt that wave of relief.”…
