CINCINNATI (WKRC) – The newest addition to Gorilla World at the Cincinnati Zoo has a name.
Gladys gave birth to her baby boy last month. Dad is Mbeli.
Gladys, who overcame significant odds after breaking her arm in 2024 and receiving a first-of-its-kind titanium 3D-printed cast from GE Aerospace, has been cradling her newborn.
The zoo announced on social media that the primate team named him Mboka Jo. Mboka means community or village in Lingala, which is a language spoken in the region where western lowland gorillas live. The zoo says it’s a nod to all the people who helped Gladys when she was a baby, those who helped her last year with the broken arm and now with her pregnancy.
