‘A big strain’: New policies in Tri-State spark tenant, landlord concerns

PRICE HILL, Ohio (WKRC) – Raysheena Matthews moved her family into a house in Cincinnati in 2019 using a Section 8 voucher from the Cincinnati Metropolitan Housing Authority, the region’s largest public housing agency.

Seven years later, she’s in danger of losing that home and her rental subsidies due to issues over inspections, as the agency also has a new system that pays rental subsidies at a lower rate than before.

The agency oversees the Section 8 voucher system, which includes 7,100 families, or 16,000 people, in Hamilton County alone. That system includes 5,700 property owners who rent to voucher holders—and many property owners have more than one Section 8 property…
