A small protest was held on MainStreet at the University of Cincinnati (UC) on Oct. 27, 2025, over a recent mass bird mortality on campus. Holding megaphones and signs reading “glass kills birds,” five protesters called for more bird-friendly architecture at UC.
Ash Conway, a UC alum and leading member of Queer Birders of Cincinnati, was one of the protest’s primary organizers. A 2019 study by Conway and associate academic director of UC biological studies Ronald Canterbury claims over 100 birds die per year on campus, with nearly 2,000 deaths in the last decade.
Conway says that yearly rate has only grown. “Five, six years later, we’re now seeing 1,000 every year, and that number is drastically increasing not only on campus but nationwide.”…
