Clermont County officials have started a 12-week cleanup of an illegal dumpsite on Route 28 in Goshen Township, Ohio. The announcement was made at a news conference on October 31, 2025. The site has been a concern for 17 years. It covers seven acres across from Eagle’s Nest Golf Course and contains about 24,000 tons of waste, including asbestos and tires. Some debris piles are over 20 feet high.
Desmond Maaytah, executive director of the Clermont County Land Bank, said the cleanup is possible due to cooperation among several agencies. The Land Bank took ownership of the property in 2024 after foreclosure and an unsuccessful auction. The previous owner, Donald W. Combs, was prosecuted and served prison time for operating the illegal dump.
Buckeye Elm Contracting is managing the cleanup. Crews plan to remove up to 40 truckloads of waste per day, five days a week, for two to three months. All waste will go to a landfill that can handle hazardous materials. Patriot Engineering, an environmental consultant, has installed groundwater monitoring wells to check for contamination.
