Ohio autistic boy, 9, ‘forced to drink dishwater after being starved by foster mom’

An Ohio foster mother has been arrested for allowing a child in her care to become so malnourished that he drank dishwater to survive.

Kelly Lewis, 52, received a felony charge of child endangering, said police. A criminal complaint obtained by The Cincinnati Enquirer said the abuse occurred between April and August at her home in Cheviot, about 110 miles east of Columbus.

Police said staff at the boy’s school noticed that he was malnourished and contacted authorities at the Hamilton County Job and Family Services. Investigators discovered that the nine-year-old autistic boy lost about 14% of his body weight, resulting in a nearly month-long stay at a hospital.
