Cincinnati will pay $8.1 million to protesters despite ‘sticker shock’

Cincinnati City Council unanimously approved an $8.1 million settlement with protesters arrested during the racial justice protests in 2020.

Several council members before the vote on Dec. 10 said they were not happy with the settlement but saw the decision as the most prudent and least risky option for the city.

Cincinnati City Councilman Scotty Johnson, a former Cincinnati Police officer, praised the police departments conduct during the protests in the summer of 2020, saying “they had to establish law and order and that’s what they did.”…
