Cold weather brings health risks: frostbite, heart attacks, and flu concerns

CINCINNATI (WKRC) – As temperatures drop, health experts are warning of several risks associated with the cold weather.

Frostbite can occur in less than 30 minutes in extreme cold, with hands, head, and feet being particularly vulnerable. “It’s cold to the point where you can’t feel your hands and your feet,” said Lakisha Williams, describing the frigid conditions.

Dr. Thomas O’Brien of the Christ Hospital emphasized the risk of heart attacks for those shoveling snow, advising people to watch for symptoms like “chest discomfort, chest tightness, [and] a pressure.”…
