King Pigeon, the Walnut Hills coffee shop that switched to a cocktail bar after dark, is closing after just more than two years in business. The neighborhood spot’s shutdown was reported March 2, 2026.
According to Cincinnati Business Journal, King Pigeon will shutter its Walnut Hills location after a brief run that began in late 2023. The Business Journal noted that the concept, while buzzy, ultimately had a relatively short life on Gilbert Avenue.
From Cocktails To Coffee
The spot opened in fall 2023 as a hybrid concept, offering espresso and pastries during the day and a storytelling-focused cocktail program at night. In December 2025, the owners announced they would retire the cocktail menu and lean harder into the daytime café model, a shift they framed as a better fit for the neighborhood. “As a third place, we’ve always been focused on what the community needs,” owner Nick Kallenberg said in a press release, according to CityBeat.
A Neighborhood Fixture
Local critics took notice of King Pigeon’s whimsical menus and tight cocktail craft, and Cincinnati Magazine praised the bar’s inventive approach, including it in the city’s dining coverage.
