Fiscal Court approves animal receiving fees for Animal Shelter, new residential trash service

It was a busy meeting for Christian Fiscal Court, as they approved a new residential trash pick up service for county residents and approved receiving fees for the Christian County Animal Shelter.

Christian County Judge-Executive Jerry Gilliam highlighted what those fees will be for those who are looking to surrender their pets into the care of the animal shelter. These fees do not apply to stray animals, only to those being owner-released. It would be $50 to surrender an adult dog, though it could be lowered down to $25 if you have veterinary documents—it’s $25 to surrender an adult cat, $50 for a litter of puppies and $50 for a litter of kittens.

Magistrate Josh Turner says most animal shelters of this size have receiving fees, and the hope is it will help balance the cost of medicine and care for the animals…
